BecksLuckily, the question as to whether or not I should pay up and go to Beckham’s (potential) MLS debut game at BMO Field has been answered for me, thus saving me from deliberation and (potential) disappointment should he not play. I am still not in Toronto and won’t be until mid-month, so while I am forced to watch the games on MLSlive.net 20,000 of our faithful TFC followers will brave the hype and hoopla to catch a glimmer of a World Class player.

And to all those naysayers and haters, let’s be honest for a moment. David Beckham is truly a talent match or surpassed by very few in the World, and we are lucky to have him in the MLS.

But the game should be exciting whether or not he plays and, if he doesn’t, all the better - we’ll beat more easily (right?)

I hope those lucky 20,000 this weekend voice their support louder than ever for TFC as the entire football/soccer-loving World will be watching!

map.pngIt’s nice to see that readers from across Canada are interested in Toronto FC, but I was surprised to see just how much support was coming from Brandon, Alberta!

Also, check tfcmls.blogspot.com for further updates on the TFC keeper situation. Looks like we might have some home-grown talent coming or way, if he’s correct. If the talent is there, it would be good for TFC’s roster situation that our keeper be Canadian as we only have some many spots that can be allocated to foreign players. If TFC is to become serious about consistency in its roster (something Sir. Mo hasn’t been all too concerned about thus far) they need to start employing and developing the local players.

SuttonThe TFCMLS blog over at blogspot.com is reporting a rumour that TFC is about to sign a new keeper to replace start Greg Sutton who is likely out for the season. Be sure to check out the site for updates and speculation.

This move, unfortunately, seems to be necessary at this point. If the team is going to turn around this recent slide in form it will have to start filling the holes - all of them, but especially in the back. It’s been awhile since we’ve had the growing pains of an expansion team in Toronto, but these are felt even more by Toronto FC fans because of the passion behind their support. The passion deserves a winning team, but the product, as is, is not up to that level. So, improvements need to be made while the current squad matures. If that means taking on a loaner from Portsmouth, as tfcmls.blogspot.com believes will be the case, then so be it.

We deserve to be in BMO field come the playoffs. We an only hope that the squad deserves it by then too.

kieran Kieran Richardson has today signed with Sunderland. I think this is a good move for Kieran - he wasn’t getting the playing time at Old Trafford that a player of his skill deserves. I’ve always felt that he was full of potential but lacked confidence and experience. Hopefully he will be a first team regualr at Sunderland and will gain the confidence to play quality and consistent football. Clearly, manager Roy Keane believes in Kieran too; after all they did spend time in midfield while Roy was still with United.

Good luck to him and good on Roy for giving him the opportunity.

More on the move here.

Well, there was certainly some drama in the first half of last night’s game. Cunningham returns to the team he scored 90+ goals for during his career, and Alecko faces TFC for the first time since we traded him. Both ended up scoring in the first half, Cunningham with a great finish after a well placed header from Dichio put him one-on-one with Real Salt Lake’s keeper. Alecko, on the other hand, worked hard to get in the Toronto FC box, fighting off three defenders to win a penalty. Even as an FC fan, it’s hard to argue that call. I decided at that point that if Toronto would manage to win the game, I would be content to allow Alecko the goal - he tried hard in his brief tenure withthe club and he was a fan favourite, afterall. If Real had gone on to win, however, my sentiments towards Alecko would have been different.

I’m currently out of the country but lucky to have a great internet connection and access to the live video streaming through MLSnet.com. Not the best quality, but it’ll do for now. Just a tip, if you’re connecting using a Mac you can enable Flip4Mac to play the streams in a Quicktime window and then go full screen instead of the small window it would typically play in.
