32 years old Darren Huckerby is, apparently, all but signed for TFC. The rumours mill is working overtime on this one - I think the last I heard the brother or cousin or neighbour of the trainer for Coventry let the news slip to the Guardian.
The biggest knock against the guy is that he never cut it in the top flight - well, two things:

  1. The MLS is no where near the English top flight. Is not even often at par with the Championship (but don’t let anyone tell you I don’t love it anyway. So, if Huckerby can play something like this…

…I’m sure I’ll live with him.

  2. Doesn’t cut it in the top flight? Well, I’d say this…

…cuts it well enough for me. And I love United. So there.

Basically, to sum it up, Welcome Darren! (I hope..)

Wagenaar Rumours have been floating around the web for the past week that Toronto FC is pursuing Canadian Josh Wagenaar of Dutch club ADO Den Haag. Word has it that he’s recently returned to Toronto to recover from an injury and some talks may have transpired. However, at this time, ADO says that they haven’t received any offers for Josh.

With Sutton coming back this year to resume #1 duties, the back-up role is still in doubt. Stammy isn’t sewn up by a long shot, so having cover for Greg is definitely necessary.

On March 29th O.G.S. will be Knighted in his home country of Norway. The honour will not, however, be for his contributions in sport but rather for being a good guy.

“What is being honoured are his attitudes, his way of being. He is a role model for children and young people,” said Egil Vindorum, head of the Oslo place chancellery. “What he did on the soccer field has nothing to do with it. We’ll leave that to others, like the Norwegian Football Federation.”
Kristiansund mayor Dagfinn Ripnes was among those who wrote to the royal palace urging the king to give Solskjaer one of Norway’s highest honours.
“Many in his position become playboys and suffer symptoms from being a star,” Ripnes told the local newspaper Tidens Krav. “Ole Gunnar remained the same down-to-earth, good guy.”

Read the article from the Canadian Press here.

Congratulations to Ole. Couldn’t find a nicer guy in the game so the honour is well deserved.

RogerToronto FC will once again be taking part in the Carolina Challenge Cup hosted by the Charleston Battery of the USL.
TFC had a good showing in the tournament last year as an expansion team, finishing second, so hopefully we can take it this year for the teams first piece of hardware. Also joining TFC will be the NYRB and San Jose Earthquake (I hate Americanized names on soccer teams…)

On to some rumours -

Corinthians player Roger is supposedly in negotiations with Toronto FC. I don’t know him all that well, but the consensus opinion seems to be loads of talent perhaps hindered by a lack of ambition. Word has it he’s also a bit of a playboy BUT I suppose we’ll cross the bridge of whether or not he’d make a good showing in the MLS or merely be here to pick up a paycheck when we get there.

Also, there are rumblings that Samuel is drawing interest from Scotland, specifically St. Johnstone, but we’ll have to digg a little deeper into those rumours. Sad to see him go? Let’s put it this way, I wouldn’t be sad to see 15 pounds of him go because I think a lighter, quicker, more nimble Collin Samuel could still be quite useful to our squad.
