Ye a little faith, right?
We show an amazing outpouring of support for a poor team on the field in expectation that it will improve sooner rather than later. We assume that an organization would want to reward our enthusiasm.
I always find is completely obnoxious when someone pulls out the “Well, you know what happens when you Ass-u-me.” Seriously, there are few things that make me want to hit a guy more than when they say that.
A day before the season opener, however, and I’m definitely starting to feel the ass for assuming all would be well.
Though really, it was more than hands off assumption on my part, and all Toronto FC fans for that matter. It’s been an active participation in the team’s only real success thus far (gaining support…)
Months ago it was clear that there would be over a THOUSAND fans traveling to Columbus for the season opener, and now that it’s a day away estimates are being put in the 2500 range. 2500! Are you kidding me? That’s an incredible showing of support and, quite frankly, if I’m Mo Johnston (and I’m honest) I’m pretty embarrassed at this point because not only have I not improved the squad in the off-season, I’ve arguably made it worse!
Worse than a last place team. Magical.

So la la la, blind faith, blind love, right?
No no, it looks like Mr. Carver wants to punch me in the stomach too. I mean, WTF. Who are you kidding, Johnny? We’re not going to notice DANNY-EFFING-DICHIO on the bench?
Alright Johnny, a little heart-to-heart for a minute.
Naturally, you know more about the game and you know much more about putting a squad together. But if your squad is already crap, can’t you give the fans something to feel great about? I don’t have a single sporting memory greater than Dichio putting in that improbable shot to tie the season closer last year. Danny Dichio is Toronto FC to the fans, so if you’re going to ask us to sit through another ugly season, don’t take away the single thing that most of us identify with. You’ll just be making it that much easier for the fans to walk away.
But back to the regular rant –
I don’t get it really. It’s like they want me to hate them.
We’ve officially made it to Mickey-In-Fantasia-With-Dancing-Army-Of-Mops-And-Buckets-With-Fireworks-And-Maybe-Even-That-Genie-From-Aladdin-MAGICAL.
